Talk to people about cosmetic dentistry and they will inevitably talk about the all white American/Hollywood smile and the reality makeover shows on TV. These are all aspects of cosmetic dentistry but they don't give the whole picture. Cosmetic or aesthetic dentistry is about creating balance and symmetry, manipulating color and contours to produce seamless harmony with adjacent teeth, gums, lips and face.
At one end of the spectrum it can be as simple as repairing a chipped tooth, or changing a silver mercury filling to a white filling and at the other end of the spectrum is the Hollywood smile, full mouth reconstruction.
